It’s week two of the high school football season. Greene County plays Nevada at home at Linduska Field in Jefferson in a non-district contest. It’s the first of four home games this season for the Rams, but it’s the only home game in the first four weeks. The Rams won 14-6 at Perry last week to open the season in the “Battle for the Cowbell”. A week from now they’ll be in Des Moines to play Saydel, then it’s a trip to Gilbert on Sept. 14.

Nevada lost at home last Friday in its opener. The Cubs had a 35-30 lead on North Polk (Alleman) with 6-1/2 minutes left in the game, but lost 49-35. Nevada quarterback Kody Kruschwitz three five touchdown passes and Jakob Strottman ran for 104 yards.

Greene County is expected to emphasize reducing penalties after being flagged more than 20 times for 218 yards in week one. Greene County quarterback Brent Riley threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns, and the defense limited the Blue Jays to 91 yards of total offense.
