The Stuart People Active for Library Services (PALS) will be hosting a historical program at the Rock Island Depot next month. The “Taking the Orphan Train” program will be held on Thursday, September 13th beginning at 7pm.
The program will be led by author and railroad expert Dr. Rudolph “Rudy” Daniels. Daniels has written five books on on the subject, including “Trains Across the Continent,” a complete history of US. and Canadian railroads. Daniels has also previously been a contributing editor of the most recent Railway Atlas of the United States publication and recently retired as Assistant Dean and Department Chair of Railroad Operations Technology at Western Iowa Tech Community College.
Former PALS President Carol Brewer talks about another unique aspect of the presentation. “The other thing I think is very unique about this man is that he comes dressed in an antique, Milwaukee Railroad conductor’s uniform. That’s how he gives his presentation. He says they now call him the ‘Midwest Super Conductor.’ So it’s going to be, I think, a really cool evening.”
The presentation is free and open to the public and refreshments will also be served. To hear more about the event, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
