The City of Perry is on the brink of a big airport project, and this coming Wednesday there will be a meeting to get everyone on the same page.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says on September 5th there will be a joint meeting between the Perry Airport Commission, airport operators Walter Aviation, City staff, and the City Council. “I really just wanted to get both the Airport Commission and the City Council in the same room, so that we could go through what this project is going to look like. Because this is another large project for us, (and) very impactful for the community. So I felt it was important to get everybody on the same page kind of close to the beginning, so that everybody knew what was going on and everybody had the same information.”
The project includes rebuilding and extending the runway at the airport, which will allow a wider variety of aircraft to utilize it. Peterson says at the moment the City is in the land acquisition phase, so the Council will be considering several resolutions related to that in the coming meetings. Once the land is acquired, the City will move into the bidding process and construction will begin shortly thereafter. The upcoming joint meeting is open to the public and will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Perry Municipal Airport.
