A short trip inside Guthrie County awaits the Panorama Cross Country teams this afternoon. The Panthers long distance runners will visit the 5 x 80 golf course in Menlo for the fifth annual Wildcat Cross Country Classic hosted by West Central Valley Community Schools. The Panorama girls cross country team is the event’s defending champion while the Panther boys finished second overall last fall. The Panther girls cross country team returns three runners who finished in the top 10 of last year’s race. Sophomore Ella Waddle earned meet medalist of the Wildcat Cross Country Classic with a first-place time of 20:24.33 while sophomores Gwen and Oliva Steffen placed fifth and seventh overall respectfully. Panorama’s top four finishers from last season’s boys’ race graduated. The top returning time came from senior Levi Richey, taking 25th place overall with a time of 20:30.62. The 2018 Wildcat Cross Country Classic features runners from Ankeny Christian Academy, Audubon, Clarinda Academy, Exira-EHK, Martensdale-St Marys, Nodaway Valley, Paton Churdan, and Woodward Academy. First races begin at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon from the 5 x 80 golf course in Menlo.
