This weekend a ceremony will be held for the newest inductees into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a band from Jefferson will be part of the festivities.
The Bushmen are one of 28 2018 inductees into the Iowa Hall of Fame. The Bushmen were a rock and roll band in Jefferson from 1964-66. Guitarist David Williamson says the fans were the ones that ultimately led to their arrival into the Hall.
“And that fan base kept pushing, and pushing, and pushing. And when the recording that was the last gig that we ever did at the Greene County Roller Rink went on YouTube and 17-minutes of that audio is on YouTube, I think the fans began to be even shouting louder. So eventually the folks at the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame decided, ‘Hey, looks like we missed something here.’ It was time to bring us in.”
The original Bushmen will perform at the induction ceremony at Arnolds Park. Following the ceremony, the Bushmen will return to Jefferson on Sunday, September 9th for a free concert at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens at 2pm, as a way for the band to say “thank you” to all of their fans for getting them into the Hall of Fame.
