The last three days this week shows all three Greene County High School varsity Fall sports teams in action.
Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s cross-country girls and boys are in action today at the 5 x 80 Golf Course near Menlo for the West Central Valley Coed Invitational. Action begins at 4:30 p.m. This is Greene County’s third meet in the first eight days of the season. They were at the Gilbert Invitational on the Iowa State University Course in Ames a week ago, then ran at Jester Park on Monday of this week at the Woodward-Granger Invitational.
Greene County hosts Nevada in football tomorrow at Linduska Field in Jefferson for the Rams’ home opener. A freshman game starts at 4:45 p.m. with the varsity teams playing at 7:30 p.m. Coverage on KG98 begins at 6:30 p.m. The Rams began the season with a non-district win last Friday in Perry by a 14-6 final in the annual “Battle for the Cowbell”, while Nevada lost on its home field to North Polk (Alleman) 49-35.
Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Greene County volleyball team hasn’t played since last Thursday, and they won’t see action until Saturday when they go to Lake City for the South Central Calhoun Tournament at 8 a.m. The Rams are 1-1 in games and 3-2 in sets after winning against Perry and losing to Ft. Dodge St. Edmond.
