Hometown Teams

Earlier this month the Smithsonian Institute’s “Hometown Teams” exhibit wrapped up its showcase at the Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library in Guthrie Center. However, a remnant of that exhibit is now on the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street website. The organization recently published a video, on its web platform for traveling exhibits, featuring Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center track and field athletes.

The video, produced with the help of Raccoon Valley Radio, includes a snapshot of the school’s ability to take students from two different school districts and make a cohesive team. In an interview for the video, AC/GC junior and 2016 Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) Class 1A State Cross Country Individual Champion Kate Crawford talks about the importance of being part of the team. “Even on the hardest days of practice, you always know that your team has your back and that they’re going to make it that much better for you. It’s also nice to know that after a hard practice, you improved.”

The video also includes Guthrie Center High School alumnus Julie Priestley. The exhibit is now at the Greene County Historical Museum in Jefferson and will be housed there until September 23rd. To view the video, click on the link below:
