Greene County Community CenterTomorrow school-age kids will have a couple of options for after school activities in Jefferson.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation is once again partnering with the McFarland Clinic providers to sponsor the free ReCharge Wednesday program. It is for youth in kindergarten through eighth grade. JPRD Director Vicky Lautner says this year, they will feature new activities, which were purchased with funds from the Jefferson Elks Lodge.

“And some of those activities are station work with jump ropes, stretch bands and core exercises. So our objective in this program is to keep the kids active for an hour or so and then at the end of the program, we serve a healthy snack. And we talk about the importance of being active and healthy eating.”

ReCharge Wednesdays are from 2 to 3:30pm and start at the Greene County Community Center. The program only happens when Greene County School District is in session.

Another option for 5th through 8th graders is the Webb House. It is across the street from the First United Methodist Church and all the activities are free. There are pinball machines, pool tables, televisions with gaming consoles, computers with games, laser tag and some outdoor games. Kids only have to pay for food and drinks. There is adult supervision and Co-Organizer Jim North says there’s a system in place for each kid that wants to be at the Webb House.Webb House

“We have a form that goes with the middle school students and the parents have to sign it. Just a couple of things that I’ll mention (on it) that: show respect to chaperones, peers and Webb House property; don’t touch others and don’t touch their stuff; no name calling; no bullying.”

The Webb House will be open from 1:45 to 5pm on Wednesdays during the school year.
