Offensive execution came at a premium last fall for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity football team, scoring 15 points or less in seven of their nine games during a winless 2017 campaign. Friday’s season opener saw ADM combine for 17 points during a nine minutes span in the second quarter, helping the Tigers best the Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays, 17-7. The win marked the first true victory for ADM football since defeating the Atlantic Trojans, 33-7, on October 7, 2016, in Adel. Tiger head football coach Garrison Carter stopped by the Fullers Petroleum Postgame Show after the game and shared his thoughts on his first victory at ADM. “We’re 1-0, which we certainly haven’t been for quite a while and that feels amazing,” Carter said, “We can certainly play a lot better than we played tonight and that’s encouraging and we leave here not celebrating too much.

ADM sophomore quarterback Tate Stine-Smith contributed two passing touchdowns and accounted for 211 yards of total offense in his first varsity start. His first connection was with junior tight end Tom Bourn for an 11-yard score, giving ADM a 7-0 lead with 8:22 remaining in the second quarter. The final 10 points ADM scored with less than two minutes remaining before halftime. Junior Bryce Holm booted a 31-yard field goal through the uprights, extending the Tigers lead to 10-0 with 1:27 remaining in the first half. ADM’s final touchdown came with 11 seconds remaining before halftime, a 27-yard touchdown strike from Stine-Smith to senior Lucas Heitz. The victory gives ADM their first season-opening win since 2015 when the Tigers edged the Perry Bluejays, 14-13. ADM hosts Perry this Friday in week two of the nondistrict season.
