Melissa FrederickEarlier this month, the Greene County Democratic Party nominated an individual to run against a Republican incumbent for the Supervisor District 3 seat.

Melissa Frederick grew up by Squirrel Hollow Park near Jefferson. She graduated from Jefferson-Scranton High School in 2009. She has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Iowa, with a minor in chemistry. For the last four years, Frederick has worked in a lab at Louis Dreyfus near Grand Junction, and she helps her husband, Bill’s business, Iowa Cover Crop. She and her husband are also members of Practical Farmers of Iowa.

Melissa believes she is motivated to be more involved in the community and can bring a different voice to the Board that may not already be represented.

“Living in the moment and having a lot of friends that are the same age and the same place in life I can talk to them and kind of just be a sounding board on, ‘Well what do you think about this issue? What are you feeling about it?’ And bring it to everybody else (on the Board) and get it better represented.”

Even though she has never held a public office before, Melissa has been involved in various committees in her career which she feels has given her the experience to work with others and make decisions, based on input from a variety of sources, for the best course of action. She is running against Republican incumbent Tom Contner for Supervisor, District 3.
