Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s Greene County High School cross-country runners enter week two of the season with not one, but two meets, on the schedule. The girls and boys go to Jester Park today in a meet hosted by Woodward-Granger at 5 o’clock. Thursday the Rams travel to rural Menlo for the West Central Valley meet at the 5 x 80 Golf Course. Greene County’s Ram Invitational at Spring Lake northwest of Grand Junction is on Sept. 7. Going back to Aug. 23 and the season opening Gilbert Invitational in Ames, that’s four meets in 15 days to begin the season.
The active first part of the season is one reason the coach emphasized running in the summer months prior to the start of official practice on Aug. 6. A number of runners ran at least 150 miles from the end of last school year and the start of practice.
The Greene County girls were tenth among 12 teams at the Gilbert meet and the boys were last among 13 teams.
