The ACGC football team didn’t find the result they were hoping for in their first game on Friday. The Chargers fell to the IKM-Manning Wolves in a non-district contest 35-0 at Jarman Field in Guthrie Center.
While the loss puts the Chargers’ record at 0-1, first-year head coach Cody Matthewson saw some improvements between the first and second halves.
“We had a chance right there to tie the 2nd half 7-7 on the one-yard line and we couldn’t punch it in. It was there (and) it was a decision call…It’s just little errors that are all fixable and it’s all we talk about. It’s a lot of mental stuff. We just got to get over that hump and understand that we can be a good team. We saw a lot of positive. It’s just (that) we got to build off those. You see a cliche statement in the coaching world is you make your biggest gains between week one and week two. So 24 hours now we flush it and we’re going to focus on Woodward Academy and move forward.”
The Wolves shut out the Chargers for the second straight year. This Friday ACGC will square off against a Woodward Academy team that hasn’t won a game in three years.
