Greene County limited Perry to just 91 yards on total offense on Friday night during the Rams’ 14-6 season opener high school football victory heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Rams totaled 346 yards of offense.
Perry had 46 yards on the ground on 20 carries. The Blue Jays passed for 46 yards on six completions in 17 attempts. Ram senior Clayton Smith had seven solo tackles, four assists, and the only turnover by pass when he intercepted a pass.
Senior defensive tackle Bryce Hoyle had three solo stops and five assists, with four solos and three assists for juniors Nick Breon and Will Hansen. Sixteen different players had at least one tackle for Greene County, and the Rams tackled the Blue Jays for losses 10 times.
Greene County had its moments on offense, especially through the air in the first half with touchdown passes of 24 yards from Brent Riley to Lance Hughes and 77 yards to Carter Morton from Riley.
Officials marched off 300 penalty yards in the game, 218 vs Greene County, a major reason why the contest took nearly three hours to play.
The Rams open the home portion of the schedule this Friday at Linduska Field in Jefferson vs. Nevada (0-1). The Cubs lost 49-35 to North Polk (Alleman) in Nevada last Friday.
