Most people who have visited the Dallas County Treasurer’s Department of Motor Vehicles building in Adel can tell you the parking lot is in rough shape. That problem is about to be taken care of, though, as the County is moving forward with a resurfacing project.
A few weeks ago, the Board of Supervisors approved plans and specifications for improvements to both the DMV and Auditor’s Office parking lots. The Board was advised to split the project into two phases, since the Auditor’s Office will be busy in the coming months with the general election in November. Work on the DMV parking lot could commence as soon as possible, however, so the County requested bids for the project.
At the most recent Supervisors meeting, the Board was presented with bids from two central Iowa contractors, though both were above the engineer’s estimate of $81,000. County Operations Director Rob Tietz said that was likely due to it not being the most ideal time of the year to seek bids, with most contractors’ schedules being fairly full. However, Tietz felt the bid of $90,435 proposed by Grimes Asphalt was a fair price and advised the Board to accept it. They did so, and the work is expected to begin soon, with a late start date of September 27th. Construction is expected to take around 15 working days, and is dependent on weather.
Phase two of the project, which includes several upgrades to the Auditor’s parking lot, will be bid some time this spring.
