Ninety years ago the Rotary Clubs from Jefferson and Perry decided to donate a cowbell to the school that won the annual high school football game between the two communities. The “Cowbell” game as it’s known, renews tonight at Dewey Field in Perry on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Greene County was 1-8 last season while Perry was 4-5. The Rams return the bulk of players from 2017, while the Blue Jays graduated a good deal of talent. Coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Mitch Moore starts his second season as head coach. He told Raccoon Valley Radio excitement has been high ever since last season ended to get this one started. “Our kids have worked so hard, in the weight room, on conditioning, in camps, on seven-on-seven competitions, you name it. We’ve done a great job preparing for this season. Now, it’s time to show the improvement we’ve made on the field.”

The Blue Jays won at Dewey Field 17-14 in overtime last season. The series actually dates back to 1898, but 1928 is when the Cowbell was introduced. Jefferson-based teams hold a 56-29-2 advantage in the Cowbell series.
