Karl Chevrolet made a big announcement Wednesday. The automotive dealership, with locations in Ankeny and Stuart, announced that they, along with the Carl and Penny Moyer family, will be donating $1 million to Des Moines Area Community College’s expansion of the Automotive Studies complex in Ankeny.
The new building, which will be named after the dealership, will double the size of the current facility. The $12 million expansion will include 22 vehicle bays, nine classrooms, a student lounge, a conference room, and a showroom. The college anticipates the project to begin next spring and be completed in two years.
Karl Chevrolet Founder and CEO Carl Moyer says his relationship with the college has been second to none and he is really thankful for the partnership over the years. Several graduates of the automotive studies program have gone on to work for the dealership since the program began in 1980.
The dealership is currently working on a multi-million dollar expansion of their Stuart location. That project is set to be completed next year.
