A change in their formation is opening the door for multiple players to facilitate the offense on the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity volleyball team. Last month, the Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with ADM varsity volleyball coach Mary Beth Scott about several offseason topics ahead of the 2018 season. She shared that the team was transitioning from a 5-1 offense to a 6-2 and explained the differences between formations. “When you run a 6-2, you’re always going to have three hitters in the front row,” Scott said, “When you run a 5-1 (offense), when you get to the front row, you technically only have two hitters because that setter is also going to be up (on the front row). It gives you more attack options.”

Scott also says the formation change will spread out the assist totals this season as well. Last fall saw junior Delaney Bertman register 555 of ADM’s 593 assists as a sophomore. During Thursday’s four matches at the Dallas Center-Grimes Volleyball Invitational, Bertman shared the facilitating duties with fellow junior Morgan Meyer. Meyer dished out 27 assists over four matches while Bertman accounted for 20 more. ADM left Grimes with a 2-2 overall record. The Tigers resume regular season match play Tuesday in Adel against the Creston Panthers. The varsity game serves around 7 p.m. from the ADM High School gymnasium.
