The sport of volleyball is important in the household of Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers incoming senior Briann Powers. “I’ve always been in volleyball since day one,” Powers said, “I have cousins, my aunt, and everyone is involved in volleyball so I’ve always gotten to watch and that’s how I fell in love with the sport.”
Her family involvement in volleyball extends to her older sister, Maddie Power, who last fall completed her four-year college volleyball career at Clarke University in Dubuque. Briann Powers adds her love for volleyball stems from her parents. “My mom and dad live for volleyball; they love watching it,” Powers said, “They try to go to every game, every little thing, they would love to come to practice if they could, but they found out recently that they can’t.”
Powers is one of two seniors returning from ADM’s 23-12 campaign a season ago. The Tigers finished last season tied with Bondurant-Farrar for a share of the Raccoon River Conference championship. Among Powers’ strengths last season was her serve efficiency, successfully getting 113 of her 125 serves over the net with 13 aces recorded. Powers and the ADM Tigers varsity volleyball team opens the 2018 competition season in Grimes tonight, competing in the Dallas Center-Grimes Volleyball Invitational.
