The ACGC football team opens the 2018 regular season on Friday against the IKM-Manning Wolves. While the outcome of the first year for new head coach Cody Matthewson’s squad is unknown at this time, the offensive scheme they will use has largely been solidified.
During last Friday’s scrimmage in Guthrie Center, the Charger offenses used a run-heavy attack in their scripted sets. Matthewson says that will be their foundation while they control possession this season. “It’s a whole new scheme in offense. You got to understand that we’re not going to be a flashy type offense so we’re not looking to score on big plays. My phrase has always been defense wins championships and offense puts the fans in the stands.”
The three backs taking the primary reps during the scrimmage were seniors Ben Kingery and Gabe Rowley, as well as freshman Gavin Cornelison. You can hear the game live on Friday night on KKRF2 and RaccoonValleyRadio.com. Pre-game coverage starts at 6pm with kickoff set for 7 from Guthrie Center. To hear more from Matthewson, listen to tonight’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports page beginning at 6pm on True Country K107.9.
