The scrimmages and other exhibitions are over for the Greene County High School sports teams. Games and meets that count on the record begin this week.

Greene County hosted North Polk (Alleman) on Friday night in the annual Sports Drink Football Scrimmage, and the volleyball Rams went to Lake City on Saturday for the South Central Calhoun Scrimmage.

Next up are the first actual competitions of the season with cross-country and volleyball in action on Thursday, and football playing on Friday.

Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s cross-country Rams have a co-ed meet Aug. 23 in Ames on the Iowa State University course for the Gilbert Invitational. This is a large meet involving JV and varsity girls and boys from 26 schools.

Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s volleyball Rams get going on Thursday by hosting non-conference teams Perry and Ft. Dodge St. Edmond in the middle school gym in Jefferson at 5:30 p.m.

Coach Mitch Moore’s football Rams open the 2018 season at Perry at 7:30 p.m. Friday against the Blue Jays at newly refurbished Dewey Field. The Battle for the Cowbell can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
