It was all about the Bluejays and Jayettes Friday evening in Perry, as the Booster Club hosted the Fall of 2018 Kick-Off event at the high school and Dewey Field.
The evening got going in the gymnasium, as the volleyball team held their annual “Blue-White” scrimmage to showcase the team to the fans. After that, the crowd made their way out to the remodeled football field, most getting their first opportunity to see the new facilities and sit in the new home bleachers. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Shawn Kenney then served as the emcee for the introductions of the fall activities and participants. First he brought up the cross country team, then the Jayette volleyball team, followed by the swimmers. The Perry Cheer Squad then stepped up and showed the crowd a few of their new routines.
Next, the marching band took the field, and director Brad Sparks talked about their program for the year. The Blue Brigade then gave a preview of the first song from the program, followed by the school fight song, which got the crowd on their feet. Finally, Kenney introduced the football team, which then participated in the “Sports Drink Scrimmage” against South Hamilton. Admission for the event was a sports drink donation. Kenney also asked each of the coaches and directors about their upcoming seasons, in order to give everyone a preview of the 2018 activities at Perry.
Food for the Kick-Off event was provided by Hy-Vee, and the Booster Club sold Perry merchandise. The Raccoon Valley Radio Big Red Radio was also in attendance, broadcasting live, playing music, and providing public address services.
