The ACGC fall sports season officially kicks off on Tuesday when the volleyball team makes the short trip to Stuart to battle the West Central Valley Wildcats. Before that though, both the volleyball and football teams got a chance to give fans a preview of what’s ahead with the fall scrimmages.
First-year head volleyball coach Trevor Irwin was pleased with his team’s performance. “We’re feeling really good going into our season here. Started really good at the (Woodward-Granger) jamboree last night (Thursday). Played really strong. Had really good digs and receives and passes as well. So really looking forward to making a strong appearance starting off in the conference.”
First-year head football coach Cody Matthewson also shared his thoughts on how team’s performance at the scrimmage needs to be improved upon throughout the season. “It’s all fixable stuff and it’s all just discipline. It has nothing to do with our athleticism or our physical ability. It’s just constant repetition. That’s just going to come with time. Like I said, Rome wasn’t built in a day. So it’s going to take a little bit to get going for some of these kids.”
The Charger football team opens the season on Friday at home in a non-district battle against the IKM-Manning Wolves. Kickoff begins at 7pm with pre-game coverage starting at 6 on KKRF2 and RaccoonValleyRadio.com. You can hear more comments from both head coaches on Monday night’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page starting at 6pm on True Country, K107.9.
