Here’s a reminder that the next quarterly meeting of the 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County is tomorrow. The event at the Lake Panorama National Resort and Conference Center begins with a light meal and social time at 5:30pm followed by the meeting at 6.
Three charitable organizations are up for consideration and include the Guthrie County Backpack Program, Giving Inc., and Little Panther Daycare. Each organization will get five minutes to present their cause, followed by a three-minute question-and-answer period. The selected organization will receive a $100 donation from each member, with an average total donation of just over $10,000.
Executive Committee Member Kristen Crouthamel talks about how 10 Squared Men of Guthrie County’s Barry Monaghan helped the group get started.
“He wrote an article and said I challenge a woman in Guthrie County to start this. Of course Shannon (Neff) Muell being the go-getter that she is said, ‘Challenge accepted!’ So she then recruited myself and Laura Stetzel, who she works with here at Guthrie County State Bank. We just kind of took that and started doing some research on what other groups were doing in the U.S. and here in Iowa and asked Barry for his guidance on how the men’s group works and we basically just got the ball rolling.”
The 10 Squared Women have donated about $65,000 to six organizations since they began meeting last year. To hear more about the group, listen to tomorrow’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
