One of the top girls track and field coaches in central Iowa will continue instructing the sport next spring at Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community Schools. ADM’s Board of Education this week approved the contract of Jessie Hunt as the Tigers’ next varsity boys track and field coach and middle school football coach. Hunt’s resume includes 10 years coaching varsity girls track and field at Waukee Community Schools. The Lady Warriors won the Class 4A State Championship in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, and 2018 under his tutelage. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with Hunt over the phone Tuesday afternoon. He says his goal is to work alongside ADM’s other varsity coaches in their collective vision for Tiger athletics going forward. “I think we all want great things to happen in our local school district, and it’s not always going to happen a particular way you dream up,” Hunt said, “It takes a lot of sacrifice, and it takes a lot of asking the question ‘what can I do to help?’

Hunt takes over for long time ADM boys track and field coach Mike Whisner. Whisner retired for ADM Community Schools at the end of May. The Tigers boys track and field position was one of three varsity sports vacancies at ADM Community Schools to begin the month. ADM Activities Director Reese Satre is still taking applications for the Tigers next girls basketball and softball coach. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will have more information about Hunt’s hiring, and updates on the other varsity coaching searches in the coming days.
