One of the fundamental weaknesses of last year’s West Central Valley volleyball team under then first-year head coach John Jones was their passing ability. Jones officially began his second season as the Wildcats volleyball coach yesterday morning as all fall sports preseason practice period opened in Iowa. Jones says the first week of practice will focus on executing passes. “We’re going to spend a lot of time getting our first pass to our setter,” Jones said, “If we can get that first pass (executed), then we have an opportunity to get the ball to our hitters. We have a lot of kids who want to play, and that’s great. (However), they are going to have to show us that they can put the ball where they need to place it.”

The West Central Valley volleyball team will look to build on a 6-20 campaign last fall. The Wildcats graduated two seniors from the program in Grace Dupuy and Bailey McLaughlin. The 2018 competition season begins for West Central Valley volleyball on Tuesday, August 21, hosting Guthrie County rival AC/GC in a West Central Activities Conference contest.
