Perry City Council 8-6

The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.

The first item on the agenda was a public hearing regarding a general obligation loan agreement. The City is taking out the loan to pay for the new garbage trucks and cans, which are now officially in use. No one spoke during the hearing, so next the Council approved the loan agreement, which was for $400,000 through Raccoon Valley Bank, with a 3.375% interest rate. It will be paid back through local option sales tax funds. Also in old business, the Council approved the first pay request to InRoads Paving for $27,874.54 for work done on the Park Street widening project.

In new business, the Council approved entering into a contract with the Region XII Council of Governments for services in assisting with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications for owner-occupied housing rehabilitation. City Administrator Sven Peterson says the services will cost $750 up front, and $100 for each application submitted. Next, they approved an application through the Department of Natural Resources for a $100,000 Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) grant to establish wetlands near the soccer complex. They also set Tuesday, October 30th from 6-8 p.m. for the City’s Trick-or-Treat night.

The meeting concluded with the approval of a professional service agreement between the City and Bolton and Menk regarding the wastewater treatment facility improvement project. The agreement will take the City through completion of the $18 million project, estimated to be in 2021.
