A special traveling exhibit with the Smithsonian Institute is scheduled to make a six-week stop in Jefferson next week.
The Hometown Teams exhibit will be at the Greene County Historical Museum from August 11th through September 23rd. It is co-sponsored by Jefferson Matters: Main Street and Greene County Historical Society. JMMS Program Director Peg Raney says there are several activities leading up to when the exhibit arrives next week. The Sierra Community Theatre will be showing two sports-related movies for free. “A League of Their Own” with Tom Hanks will be shown at 7pm on Monday and Tuesday, with an additional showing at 2pm Tuesday. Then on Wednesday and Thursday at 7pm, along with another showing at 2pm Thursday is “Field of Dreams” starring Kevin Costner. She talks about two other opportunities for people to get involved.
“The Greene County Singers are going to perform (local school) fight songs from past ones and current ones. People can sing along if they remember those, at the (Greene County) Farmers Market on August 7th. The (Jefferson Public) library is going to collect stories. Maybe those untold stories people didn’t know about sports or teams in Greene County. And so they are doing that all the way through the time (the exhibit is here).”
They are also looking for volunteers to host the exhibit. Contact Raney at 386-3585 or email her at director@jeffersonmatters.org for more information.
