Adair County Health System (ACHS) and Adair County Public Health (ACPH) will be offering walk-in, adolescent immunization clinics over the next two weeks. The clinics will be on Wednesday, August 8th and Wednesday, August 15th from noon-6pm at Adair County Medical Clinic in Greenfield.
ACPH Community Health Coordinator Stephanie Claussen says these clinics serve as an opportunity for students to receive required and recommended vaccinations before school starts. She also says these clinics, while helpful, should not replace yearly check-ups.
“While we’re offering these walk-in immunization clinics, this should not take precedence over the annual well-child visits or sports physicals. Sometimes kids only come in for sports physicals or only when they’re sick. So it is recommended that adolescents still go in and see their doctor yearly for a well-child visit and have an opportunity to have those conversations.”
Kindergarteners are required to have Tdap, Polio, MMR, and Varicella vaccinations, while 7th graders need Tdap and meningitis vaccines. The meningitis vaccination is also required for all Incoming seniors. To hear more about the clinics, listen to Claussen on today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
