(Revised at 3:45 p.m.) Two varsity head coaching positions at Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community Schools are all of a sudden unoccupied entering the 2018-19 school year later this month. ADM Activities Director Reece Satre told Raccoon Valley Radio via text message Thursday morning that Rick Dillinger, the Tigers varsity softball and girls basketball coach, is stepping down from both positions effective immediately. Shortly after the text message was received, the University of Iowa Women’s Softball team announced Dillinger as the newest assistant coach on their Twitter account. The Raccoon Valley Radio confirmed with Dillinger of the move this afternoon and said he started the process of applying for the Hawkeye assistant coaching job during ADM’s state tournament run in Fort Dodge. “The interview (started) the Thursday before the state final, a phone interview,” Dillinger said, “And then this last Thursday I had an interview down in Iowa City. Then, I was told (on Monday) that I was hired.”
The Raccoon Valley Radio Network also spoke on the phone with Satre this afternoon and said Dillinger’s an excellent fit for the position. “I would imagine that you would want someone a guy who knows an awful lot about softball but also someone who knows a lot about how the kids in the state of Iowa operate,” Satre said, “Because there’s darn good softball players in the State of Iowa, and I can’t think of anybody better than Rick Dillinger to be out there recruiting high school juniors and seniors to come and represent the state at the collegiate level.”
Dillinger most recently guided the ADM softball team to a 35-8 overall record and finished the year as the runner-up of the Class 4A State Softball tournament last month in Fort Dodge. The Tigers girls basketball team closed the 2017-18 season with a 9-13 overall record; ADM posted a 9-8 mark after losing their first five games of the season. This is a developing story, and the Raccoon Valley Radio Network will have more information once it becomes available.
