In addition to their offseason preparations, the ACGC football team has added an element of community service. Their most recent community service opportunity had a big name attached to it. About ten members of the Charger football team volunteered as stage hands for headliner Jake Owen’s concert during the 10th Annual River Ruckus this past weekend.
According to the River Ruckus Twitter page, the country star’s crew told event staff that they had never seen high school athletes put in harder work. The community service opportunities are a component of a competition between the players. In addition to attending weight-room sessions and participating in other on-field camps, the players can earn bonus points by participating in the service opportunities. As an added bonus, the players got to meet Owen in person and share a photograph.
Each month the winning team is rewarded with a grill-out barbecue put on by the coaching staff. The Chargers began day one of preseason camp on Monday and open the season on Friday, August 24th at home against the IKM-Manning Wolves. You can listen to Charger football all season long on KKRF2 and the Racoon Valley Radio Network.
