musicnotes1full-300x300 (1)Last weekend the 10th annual River Ruckus came to a close. That mark is a historic achievement in itself, however this weekend’s musical entertainment in Guthrie County has provided a different genre of melodies for a decade longer. The 21st Annual Guthrie County Southern Gospel Sing will make its way to the Guthrie County Fairgrounds and Event Center in Guthrie Center tomorrow and Saturday.

Eighteen groups from across the region and beyond will perform tomorrow from 2:45-8:30pm, and Saturday from 9:45am-7:30pm. The event is free and open to the public and attendees are encouraged to come and go as they please. Seating is available, though lawn chairs are encouraged. Tori’s Angels’ Concession Stand will also be on site to sell food.

Pastor Dean Porter, the founder of the event, tells Raccoon Valley Radio he wasn’t sure this would make it past twenty years. “When I first started, we started with three groups 21 years ago. About four years into it I was ready to give up, (but) I was told to stick with it. God has blessed (us) and now we’re running close to twenty groups every year. So I had no idea God would bless it that much.”

This year’s theme is, “From the Cradle to the Cross.” To hear more on the event, listen to Porter on today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
