The City of Adel is remaining under a water watch until further notice, as water use has remained high since it was originally issued.
The water watch is the first stage of the City’s water conservation plan, and it encourages residents to limit their outside watering. Additionally, citizens are asked to only water their lawns between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., in order to mitigate the effects of evaporation during the hotter daytime hours. Adel Water Superintendent Jordon Altenhofen reported at a recent City Council meeting that for the time being they don’t need to advance beyond the watch level, where water conservation is voluntary. However, he says if they reach 80% usage on a consistent basis, he will advance it to a water warning, which carries mandated conservation.
Altenhofen did note that he’s seen a better response this year to the water watch than last year. The water watch has been in effect since July 17th. Anyone with questions is encouraged to reach out to Adel City Hall at 515-993-4525.
