acgcYesterday the ACGC football team kicked off it’s preseason camp in Guthrie Center. On Monday the volleyball and cross country teams will get in their first practices. Overall, participation in fall sports is on the rise at ACGC, particularly in football.

Activities Director Ethan Lensch tells Raccoon Valley Radio the football team has increased by double digits when compared to last season. He says finding all the necessary equipment for increased numbers may be challenging, but thinks they’ll come out alright. “The helmets, the expensive parts like that, we’ve been digging around making sure we have stuff that’s still usable. I think we’re going to be on the edge with that but we did a lot of the fitting and I think we’re going to come out maybe one short. When it comes to stuff like that you need it.”

Lensch says there isn’t a lot of new equipment for the year for the football team. He also says volleyball and cross country have put up good numbers, with totals that are closer to last year. The ACGC football team opens the season on Friday, August 24th at home against IKM-Manning. The volleyball team opens the regular season at West Central Valley on Tuesday, August 21st. The first cross country meet is slated for Thursday, August 23rd at the Iowa State University Cross Country Course in Ames.
