2018 Kids Summer Reading ProgramThe Jefferson Library Kids Summer Reading Program ended Monday with a final party at the First United Methodist Church.

Overall all of the participants read a total of 43,730 minutes and those that read over 400 minutes received a book bag filled with pizza and ice cream certificates, along with a free pass to the Blank Park Zoo, a paperback book, a reading certificate and a t-shirt. Another highlight was the drawing for the grand prize winner. This year it was Rylee Danielson who won a gift card for a new bicycle. Another major prize winner was Cora Powers who read the most minutes with 1,620.

Children’s Librarian Terry Clark was thrilled with the participation of not only the kids, but of the parents with the program as well.

“We had a nice group of kids that worked with us this year on the summer reading program. A lot of our parents were volunteers too that helped out with different events and planned out crafts and things for the kids. The kids were in the library a lot this summer just to come in to do the crafts, do the different drawings, and do the look and finds and things like that. We just had a lot of different activities going on for them this summer. I think it was a very interactive and hands on program.”

Clark thanks all of the sponsors for their continued support of the summer reading program. The sponsors include: Greene County Board of Supervisors, Home State Bank, Blank Park Zoo, Peoples Bank, Hy-Vee, Dairy Queen, Wells Fargo Bank, Fareway, Breadeaux Pizza and Friends of the Jefferson Library.
