Emergency crews responded Tuesday evening to a fire at the Kum & Go gas station in Adel, and were able to contain the fire before it had a chance to do considerable damage.
Just before 6 p.m., the Adel Fire Department was requested at the gas station, after a fire broke out in the women’s bathroom. A representative of Kum & Go told Raccoon Valley Radio it appeared to originate from the hand dryer in the bathroom, though exactly what caused it to ignite is unknown at this time. The fire reportedly destroyed the bathroom, but thanks to the quick response by firefighters, the rest of the building was relatively unharmed. Additionally, no one was injured in the incident.
However, the representative said there was some smoke and water damage in the rest of the gas station. They said the Kum & Go will be closed for at least a couple days while they assess the full extent of that damage. The Adel Fire Department was aided at the scene by the Dallas Center Fire Department, the Adel Police Department, Dallas County Emergency Medical Services, and representatives from Alliant Energy. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information is it becomes official.
