Greene County head football coach and activities director Mitch Moore understands it takes a lot to be a successful high school athlete, and he knows he and his fellow coaches ask a lot of the student-athletes here. He talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about how many of the athletes have worked harder than they ever have to achieve what they never have. “We know maybe there was a baseball game the night before, they have jobs, they have strength & conditioning, and they have to deal with me for two hours in the early morning. Just to show you how much good there is in the world, and how hard working the kids here in Greene County can really be, and know they’re going to be really successful in life, it shows me that if you want to put your mind to do something, you can do it. We’ve seen kids that couldn’t bench 135 lbs. that are now benching 240. There are kids that couldn’t make a consistent workout for three weeks in a row have now gone for three months in a row.”

The coach added that seeing these student-athletes put in the time and effort, and start to see themselves become better athletes is very rewarding. “Mind over matter isn’t just a saying. I think if you really put your mind to something, you can do it.”

Today is the second and final day of the Gridiron Football Camp at Greene County High School in Jefferson for third graders all the way up to seniors in high school from 5-8 p.m. Official high school football practice begins on Monday, Aug. 6.
