A new season of Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity football begins 26 days from today under first-year head coach Garrison Carter. Carter spent part of his offseason assembling an assistant coaching staff filled with decades of experience and an overwhelming passion for football. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will spend the next several days sharing the stories of Carter’s assistant coaching staff. Today’s assistant coach focus is on former longtime Panorama head football coach Lyle Alumbaugh, one of the four new coaches on the Tigers varsity staff. Carter tells Raccoon Valley Radio Alumbaugh was the first person he met with after accepting the head football position at ADM. “Literally left my interview at ADM and met (Alumbaugh) for dinner,” Carter said, “(We) talked about ADM football and by the time we were doing having that conversation, he decided to retire where he was at and come join us.”
Alumbaugh’s tenure at Panorama including 20 winning seasons as the Panthers’ head football coach. Carter said Alumbaugh is focusing on coaching the Tigers defensive line as well as the entire coaching staff. “He’s coaching me every day,” Carter said, “(We) can’t get enough learning from Coach A, we’re excited to have him (on staff).”
Both Carter and Alumbaugh are on the Iowa Football Coaches Association’s Board of Directors, making ADM the only high school team in the state with two coaches represented. Tomorrow our ADM assistant football coaching spotlight will be on returning defensive coordinator Chris Rupe.
