Two of the more successful girls’ varsity sports programs at Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community Schools over the past five years has been the volleyball and softball teams. The ADM softball squad recently ended one of their best seasons in school history, posting a 35-8 overall record and finished runner-up in the Class 4A State Softball tournament. ADM head volleyball coach Mary Beth Scott is excited about the confidence the softball athletes will bring to the court this season. “It carries over, the confidence they have, ” Scott said, “Anytime you can have a (sports) program be that successful and finish second at (the) state (tournament), (it) always boosts the other sports.”
Scott says she has three athletes who played softball this summer out for varsity volleyball this fall, including incoming juniors Abbie Hlas and Morgan Meyer and incoming sophomore Aniston Smith. The 2017 ADM volleyball season finished with a record of 23-12 overall, tying Bondurant-Farrar for the Raccoon River Conference championship. The Tigers graduated four starters off last year’s team including Amy Gottschalk, Jordan Hook, Ellie Mueller, and Sami Schepers.
