As the summer construction season continues, so does various projects for the Iowa Department of Transportation.
DOT Construction Engineer Jenny Hoskins says work is progressing on Highway 144 from Grand Junction to Perry. The contractor, InRoads, has completed the cold-in-place which needs two weeks to settle before the two-inches of concrete can be applied to the road. Currently crews are working to widen the road and shoulder area of the highway as well. If there are no weather complications, Hoskins anticipates the project to be completed by mid-August.
Another project that InRoads will be doing is an asphalt overlay on Highway 4 in Jefferson. Due to earlier weather complications, the start date of the project has been pushed back from its original July 30th date. Hoskins says the project will begin with an InRoads’ subcontractor doing initial sidewalks that are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant from Lincoln Way to the overpass bridge. That work is anticipated to begin in early August.
Once InRoads is done with the Highway 144 project, they will come in and mill down the curb and gutter line of the highway and then apply four-inch asphalt on top of the road. During that portion of the project, there will be one-way traffic on the road. Hoskins notes that the project is estimated to take two to three weeks to complete.
Both projects cost a total of $5.9 million.
