2000px-Iowa-StateSeal.svgBy now you’ve likely seen a new design on license plates across Iowa. For the last couple of weeks the Guthrie County Treasurer’s Office has been issuing the new plates to residents.

County Treasurer Marci Schreck explains how the plates are distributed. “Not everybody will get new license plates when they come in to renew. You will not receive the new plates until your old plates have come up in the replacement cycle. But if you want the new style plates before that, you can turn in your old plates and pay $5 per set.”

Schreck says the replacement cycle goes into effect every ten years for each plate. The Governor’s decision for the new plates replaced a design that had been in circulation since 1998. The new design features the Des Moines skyline, a farm scene, and a patch of grass. It’s titled, “City and Country Reboot.” To hear more on the new plates and updates from the Treasurer’s Office, listen to Schreck on Tuesday’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
