dmaccSeveral Greene County 4-H and FFA’ers have been invited to a special livestock competition tomorrow.

The Des Moines Area Community College BEARdown will take place this Saturday for livestock exhibitors from Greene, Marshall, Dallas, Calhoun, Jasper, Story and Polk counties. Qualifiers are from their respective county fair champion market and breeding animals in beef, swine, sheep and goat divisions.

Competing for Greene County in the swine category will be Izzy Bravard from Jefferson, who was crowned Champion Market Hog during the county fair. Garrett Peterson from Scranton will compete for the Breeding Ewe division. As for the Champion Market Beef Show, Preston Kennedy from Grand Junction will participate and he will also compete for the Champion Market Goat title. Taylor McDowell will represent Jefferson for the Champion Breeding Doe category in the goat division.

The BEARdown contest starts at 1pm at the Story County Fairgrounds in Nevada. The BEARdown champions will then compete head-to-head against the champions from the eight other regions in an All-Iowa Showdown in Oskaloosa on August 5th. The public is encouraged to attend the BEARdown contest.
