Discover Space 1

The Perry Public Library just finished up their children and adult summer reading programs, and the teen finale is a week from today, and it’s given those behind it a chance to reflect on what worked well.

Library Director Mary Murphy says at each level it was clear that the theme, “Discover Space,” was very well received. The young kids, tweens, and teens enjoyed utilizing the assortment of kiosks. Murphy adds, the adults also found many of the space-themed activities and programs enjoyable. All-in-all, she and the other librarians felt “Discover Space” was worth the wait.

They won’t know for a few more days exactly how many participants were in each of the programs, but Murphy felt it was one of their biggest turnouts yet. She credits much of that success to the outside support they received, including from Raccoon Valley Radio. “Thanks from me, to KDLS and all the other partners in the community that promote literacy! They are taking part in the big push for literacy. It’s so needed to have the whole town upholding literacy, so people can think reading is something to do. And once you can read, and read well, you can teach yourself. And that takes away a lot of obstacles in life.”
