The Raccoon River Valley area saw slight increases in June’s unemployment figures.
According to Iowa Workforce Development, Greene County had the largest jump in unemployment from May to June of 0.5-percent to 2.9-percent in June. Dallas County went up 0.2-percent from May of 1.6-percent to 1.8-percent in June. Guthrie County also saw an increase in the percentage of those without a job in June of 2.4-percent, which was a 0.2-percent increase from May.
However, each county is doing much better with unemployment than this time last year. In June of 2017, Guthrie County was at 3.4-percent, Greene County was at 3.3-percent, and Dallas County was at 2.3-percent unemployment.
Iowa’s unemployment rate for last month remained the same from May at 2.7-percent, while the national unemployment rate rose slightly to 4-percent from 3.8-percent in May.
