The finale of the Perry Public Library’s “Discover Space” Teen Summer Reading Program is coming soon, though not on the day originally planned.
Deputy Library Director Misty VonBehren says she had originally scheduled the finale for July 27th, but it has now been rescheduled for a week later, on August 3rd. In spite of the new date, the activities will remain the same, as it will be an after-hours Alien Invasion party. VonBehren says there will be an assortment of activities, such as: board games and video games; crafts; the “Saran Wrap Ball Game,” where they can win some prizes; and a “War of the Worlds” battle between aliens and astronauts, using nerf guns. There will also be food and a drawing for the grand prize.
As if that wasn’t enough, VonBehren says she’ll also have individual prizes for everyone who attends the party. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that after hours events are always a favorite of the teens, and she enjoys them just as much. “The teens really like it when they can come into the library when there’s no one else there, the doors are locked, the lights are down low, and they can do whatever it is that their little heart desires! So very exciting for the teens to be able to behave very teen-like in a non-library setting.”
The finale will run from 6-10 p.m. on August 3rd. There is no cost to attend, and no registration is required. For more information, stop in or call the library at 515-465-3569.
