Within the next week, residents of Perry will have something new arriving at their doorstep. The new garbage cans that go along with the new garbage trucks are expected to arrive, and homeowners will be getting them for free.
To go along with the new equipment, the City also announced the new garbage procedures will begin on Monday, August 6th. For nearly everyone in the City, the garbage collection day will not change. The exceptions are residents on Kading or William streets, who will be on Monday’s schedule. City crews ask people to put their new cans on the curb before 7 a.m. on their collection day, but not more than 24 hours ahead of time. Additionally, containers must have a four-foot clearance around them to provide clear access, and people are asked not to park in front of any cans, whether theirs or someone else’s.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says the new garbage system may seem confusing, but he feels people are on board. “I know we’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback from the community on making this change. So I think it’ll be more efficient for us, we’ll be able to save some resources. But also, I think it’s really going to help us keep the town cleaner. We’re not going to have animals getting into bags and stuff like that. It’s just going to be a really great thing for us, and we’re all very excited!”
