Grand JunctionThe City of Grand Junction will be offering a variety of activities and entertainment this weekend with their Summerfest Celebration.

The festivities kick-off tomorrow night with a free movie with “A Wrinkle of Time” at 8:30pm at the City swimming pool. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and beverages and free popcorn will be served.

Then Saturday has a full slate of activities. From 10am to 2pm will be vendors inside the community center and the parade will take place at 11am. Committee member Alan Robinson says the route will start at 14th and Benton streets and head down Main Street. Robinson points out that a majority of the afternoon activities will be at the newly acquired softball fields. A meal will be served by the Greene County Pork Producers and the Junction Food Producers 4-H Club at 1pm. Also at 1pm will be a kickball tournament at the softball field and a free throw contest at the tennis court. Then at 4pm will be a bags tournament back at the softball field.

A beer garden will be open in the afternoon until 11pm with music provided by a DJ company from Ogden. Everyone can then enjoy free swimming at the City pool from 6 to 8pm, sponsored by the Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department. The event wraps up with the Glow-Run 5K at 8:45pm. Participants will start and end at the community center. Cost to participate is $20. Contact City Hall for more information or to sign up for any of the contests.

Robinson talks about some other places to check out while you’re in Grand Junction.

“We have the Lincoln Highway Museum and then we also have the Lincoln Highway Garden right there on Main Street. So we want to be showcasing that. And we also have the Kennedy Museum too. Jerry Kennedy has a wonderful museum there on Hager Street.”
