Perry Carnegie Library Museum

Time is running out for anyone interested in checking out the World War I exhibit at the Carnegie Library Museum in Perry.

The Hometown Heritage program began in June and will wrap up Sunday. Research Assistant Alissa Whitmore says they chose to do the exhibit to honor the 100th anniversary of “The War to End All Wars.” She describes what people can find, if they haven’t already checked out the exhibit. “Essentially, we’re trying to tell Perry and the surrounding area’s stories that relate to World War I. So this will be both local soldiers who fought in it, as well as kind of what the people in Perry were doing at home to support the war effort. So we have some photos from Hometown Heritage that are part of the exhibit, as well as objects from Dallas County Conservation, both from Forest Park and the Grand Army of the Republic Museum that’s in Redfield.”

Whitmore adds, there’s still time for people to add their own stories to the growing exhibit walls. Throughout the exhibit’s duration, people have been invited to provide pictures and stories they have from the war, and contribute to the maps to mark where their relatives served. The World War I exhibit will end Sunday, and it’s free to view during the Carnegie Library’s normal business hours.
