Four weeks from tomorrow the ACGC football team will open their third season at home against the IKM-Manning Wolves. First-year Head Coach Cody Matthewson says it’s important to remember there are a lot of new faces, not just for the players, but for the coaching staff as well. Matthewson is stressing communication as a primary principal in offseason preparations.
“We’re starting from ground zero. We’ve got a new offensive philosophy. Our defensive philosophy may be a little different. We’re teaching the kids like they don’t know anything. Maybe they do no everything but we have to be sure they’re on the same page with terminology and we all have the same buzzwords. We all understand when we’re communicating with each other exactly so they know what we’re talking about.”
Matthewson says having the coaching staff all lined up is certainly helping their efforts in getting the gold and black ready late next month. The Chargers have a combined record of 1-17 heading into the third season. Tomorrow we’ll take a look at player development over the offseason.
