A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to prison for a January incident.

According to court documents, 39-year-old Edward Goff pled guilty to a Class D Felony for second degree theft. He was sentenced to no more than five years in prison. The charge stems from an incident on January 3rd. Goff stole a Renew Energy truck from Jefferson, which had been found in a ditch in Calhoun County. After Goff and another suspect were taken to a gas station in Rockwell City, the couple then allegedly stole another vehicle. The driver of the other stolen vehicle, Samantha Cline-Hoskins lost control after a 20-minute chase, where the two were arrested.

Goff additionally faces other charges in Calhoun and Pocahontas counties. There are no charges from the Jefferson Police Department against Cline-Hoskins.

Goff was also ordered to pay a $125 law enforcement surcharge, plus victim restitution and court costs. As per his plea agreement, the State dismissed the aggravated misdemeanor for operation of a vehicle without owner’s consent charge.
