The Greene County School Board recently approved the lease agreement to continue to use the Jefferson Fieldhouse.
The School Board approved a $23,750 agreement for the 2018-19 school year with Greene County Youth Athletic Association (GCYAA), who owns the building. Superintendent Tim Christensen says they’ve traditionally used the facility for wrestling. However, last school year, all of the other sports programs could use the Fieldhouse for free. Christensen shares the details of the breakdown of the lease.
“So we’re looking at $15,000 for the in-season wrestling (and) $3,750 for year round wrestling, the out of season. And then what they asked us for is basically $50 per hour with a minimum of 100 hours, so $5,000.”
Christensen adds that the district could use it more, but with the rate of $50 per hour beyond what the School Board agreed to. He talks about another possibility to use it other than for the sports programs.
“We’ve also had conversations, the middle school isn’t too far away. Could we possibly use it for recess? Could we use it for PE? Again as everybody knows we eat in the gymnasium so there’s no PE during the middle of the day. So there are some other uses that we could possibly make of the Fieldhouse.”
GCYAA purchased the Fieldhouse last year through a $150,000 grant from Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation.
